You’ve booked a half-day in the Agafay and want to know what to expect? Here’s how it goes — our most-booked formula. The afternoon version is identical, shifted to finish on the sunset.

At a glance

  • Total on-site: about 4 h
  • Effective riding time: 2 to 3 h
  • Distance covered: 150 to 200 km depending on pace
  • Hotel pickup: arranged with you in advance, based on your chosen slot

Everything is flexible: we adapt to your schedule, not the other way around.

The pickup

If you’ve arranged a transfer (see our pricing guide for conditions), a partner driver picks you up at your hotel or riad. If you’re in the medina, we set a meeting point at the nearest gate.

About 35 min south-west on the Amizmiz road. You leave the city, cross the golf district, and the landscape opens up: palm groves, olive trees, and the snow-dusted Atlas in the distance (visible most of the year).

At the base — Station Afriquia, km 16

Our base is integrated into the Afriquia service station: easy meeting point, no wandering around the desert. Restrooms, water, lockers for your bags and jackets.

Welcome and briefing

Around twenty quiet minutes:

  • Quick intro to the team and the guide.
  • Driving briefing: controls (throttle, brake, gear lever for buggies), guide signals, safety distance.
  • Helmet fitting (all sizes), 4-point harness for the buggy or gloves for the quad.
  • Group photo before heading out.

If you’re travelling with kids (passengers from 6 in the 4-seater buggy), this is when we double-check the child fit + belt.

First riding leg

We leave the base on a soft track — the first 10 minutes are “easy” to get used to the machine. Then the terrain turns more natural: dry riverbeds to cross, ochre rises, first climbs.

What you’ll see:

  • Typical Agafay ochre plateaus.
  • First Atlas panorama: a viewpoint 100 m above the plateau, mandatory photo stop.
  • Some isolated Berber sheepfolds — you might cross a flock of goats or a camel.

Tea break at the Berber camp

Arrival at our Berber camp: traditional tent, rugs, low cushions. We serve Moroccan mint tea — not a sanitised tourist version, the real deal (including the 50 cm-high pour). Some almonds or dates depending on the season.

Helmet off, breathe, take the photos you need. This is also when we ask “head back or keep going?” — if the pace works for everyone, we continue.

Second riding leg

Return via a different loop — we never retrace the morning’s tracks. On the menu:

  • A longer climb up to a panoramic plateau: 360° view of the Atlas, Lake Lalla Takerkoust visible on a clear day, and the whole plain.
  • A switchback descent that drivers love (always guided — safety first).
  • One last, wider riverbed crossing.

The guide paces things to suit the group and adds micro-breaks if needed.

Back at the base, then back to your hotel

Quick hand and face rinse (dust guaranteed), pickup of your belongings from the locker. Then 35 min back to Marrakech.

What to plan between the tour and dinner

  • 30 min shower: you’ll leave with a fine ochre layer on your face, unavoidable.
  • Easy afternoon program if you took the morning tour: a nap or the hotel pool works well.
